John E Mattera

 John E. Mattera 88, of Bloomsburg, went to be with the Lord, April 19, 2024, at The Gardens at Orangeville. He was born May 26, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Alfonsl and Madeline (DeMaio) Mattera. 

He was a graduate of High School in Brooklyn New York, and then graduated from New York Institute of Technology. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army Infantry. After serving his country he joined the New York City Police Department, where he stayed until his retirement. John was a member of St Matthew Lutheran Church.

John is survived by his son, Charles R. Mattera and his wife Denise of Staten Island, New York, four grandchildren: Lisa, Erica, Lauren, Stephanie, and five great grandchildren, Brandon, Zoey, Matthew, James, and Jordyn.

John was preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife the former Lois S. (Sharretts) Mattera, who passed on July 24, 2008, and four siblings: Michael, James, Salvatore, and Marianna.

Services will be April 26, 2024, at 11:00 am from the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 Market Street Bloomsburg Pa. 17815, with Rev Gordon Smith officiating, Burial will follow at New Rosemont Cemetery, 2001-2099 Old Berwick Road Bloomsburg Pa. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
