Marland “Pug” Earnest, 80, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Millville, a son of the late William M. Sr. and Irene Sarah (Heller) Earnest.
He graduated from Millville High School, Class of 1962, where he was a Hall of Fame Soccer Player in 1960-1961. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he was honorably discharged. Pug worked for his family’s sawmill, Abraczinskas Tree Farm, Quaker State Plantation, Magee Carpet, Kawneer, Little Lumber Co., and HRI before retiring. He was the Pennsylvania Lumber Historian and a life member of the Columbia County Historical Society, as well as Wyoming, Sullivan, and Bradford County.
Pug enjoyed playing music, going snowmobiling, riding four wheelers, exploring coal mines and railroads. He was a Civil War buff.
Pug is survived by three children: Lonna Marie Earnest of Berwick, Justin Earnest, wife, Eve McCrea, of Florida, Jeremy Earnest of Florida; stepson, Jeffrey Dawson, wife, Devon, of Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Jared, Jessick, Catlin, Caleb; and three brothers: Carlos “Ray” Earnest of Myrtle Beach, Albert “Hap” Earnest, wife, Lois, of Millville, and Gorman “Gum” Earnest of Millville.
Pug was preceded in death by his parents as well as granddaughter, Victoria; and four brothers: Wayne, William Jr., Ross, and Martin Earnest.
Services will be Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Bunnell Funeral Home, Inc., 179 E. Main St., Millville, with Pastor Shawn McNett officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
