Obituary for Helen Long

Helen L. Long 90, of Millville, PA, died peacefully Saturday November 17, 2018 at the Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA.
Helen was born June 25, 1928, in Madison Township, a daughter of the late Fred and Maude (Crist) Gillaspy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Sandy Smith in 2009, two brothers Bud and James Gillaspy, and sister Josephine Houseknecht.
She was a graduate of Millville High School Class of 1946 and was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Millville.
She was a loving Mom, grandmother, and remarkable cook. She was happiest when preparing meals in her home for the family. She was especially famous for her pies. Helen could be found knitting dish clothes or creating home-made cards for her family and friends. Her family was her passion and delight.
Helen is survived by her husband Robert M. Long and would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in August. She also is survived by three daughters; Susan Stackhouse (Joe), Betsy Swank (Ray), Brenda Grassett (Kirk), sister Thelma Houseknecht, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog Benee.
Helen requested a private, intimate gathering near her home. The family wish to thank all of those who visited and cared for out mother especially Sherry Stair.
