John R. Thomas Sr., 76, of Bloomsburg, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born June 9, 1943, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Ralph and Doris (Terwillinger) Thomas.

He graduated from Central Columbia High School Class of 1961. John’s pride and joy was farming. He farmed all of his life, while also working and retiring from Magee where he was a supervisor for over 45 years. He was a member of Canby Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing on his computer and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Kelchner, whom he married Jan. 1, 1963; three children: John R. Thomas Jr., Tammy McDonald, and Matthew P. Thomas and wife, Mai, all of Bloomsburg; as well as seven grandchildren: Lance, Shawn, Lacie, Kloey, Tate, Vy, and Ava; two great-grandchildren: Jace and Brinley; and sister, Jean Thomas, of Bloomsburg.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Artie Thomas.
Services will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Canby Lutheran Church, 529 Millertown Rd., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Pastor Stanley Bower, officiating. Burial will follow at Canby Lutheran Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
