Nancy Crissman Obituary

Nancy P Crissman, 79 of Hastings, Florida and formerly of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday March 15, 2024 at her residence.  She was born October 7, 1944 in Lewisburg.  She was the daughter of the late William C. and A. Louise (Hummel) Rufty.  She attended Mifflinburg High School and she later received her LPN degree from Danville Area School of Practical Nursing Program in 1975.

Nancy held many nursing positions over the years at Millville Health Center, Muncy Valley Hosp, Warrior Run School District, Select Specialty Hospital, Maxim Healthcare, and Therapy Plus Homecare where she cared for disabled children.  In addition to being an LPN Nancy was one of the first female EMT’s in 1971 at the White Deer Twp. Fire Co. where she served for many years.  Nancy was an avid lover of all animals both domestic and wild.  In 1983 she started Spruce Run Farm Rehabilitation where she cared for all forms of wildlife.  She later added Spruce Run Farm Whitetail where they raised and bottle-fed baby deer.  She took the deer to local fairs and schools to do educational programs.

In 1985 she moved to her farm in Millville that was next to the College Settlement Camp where the Teen Adventure Program operated.  They became friends and the camp kids would come to the farm to see the animals, swim in the pond and eat watermelon each summer.  In 2013 the camp was in need of a nurse for their Horsham location and they asked Nancy to step in.  She remained as camp nurse every summer after that even after her cancer diagnosis in 2021.  She moved her treatments to a location near the camp in 2022 so that she could continue to serve the camp.

Nancy loved the Lord.  In PA she was a member of Open Door Christian Fellowship Church.  She was a dedicated member of Harvest Light Church and she volunteered for St John’s River Baptist Association.  Through both organizations, she developed an extended Florida family.

Nancy is survived by her three children; David Hoover of Bloomsburg, Paulette Renner and husband Bud of Winfield, Wayne Hoover and wife Brenda of West Milton, stepsons John Crissman Jr and wife Jamie of Northumberland, Shane Crissman and wife Misty of Bowling Green Kentucky; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Nancy was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband John Crissman who passed away in 2012 and a sister, Karen Rufty.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 5th at Open Door Christian Fellowship Church located at 291 Mall Blvd.  Bloomsburg, PA 17815.  Visitation will be from 4-5 with a memorial service immediately following.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Nancy’s behalf to:  College Settlement 600 Witner Road Horsham PA 19044.
